The Macallan Sherry Oak 18 Year Old 2016 Release holds historical significance as it was the first bottling to be labeled with a “Release Year” (2016) instead of a specific “Vintage” year, with the liquid being distilled in 1998 and earlier years. It continues the Speyside tradition of maturation exclusively in hand-picked sherry seasoned oak casks from Jerez, Spain, and is presented in the classic purple-hued box packaging. Tasting notes point to an intensely sherried experience, with a nose of cocoa, marmalade, and dark sherry. The palate is sweet and rich with hints of char, rum-soaked raisins, and stewed apples, leading to a long, luxurious finish of sweet spice and oak tannins.
