The Macallan Edition No. 5 is the fifth release in the limited annual series, serving as a vibrant celebration of the whisky’s 100% natural color, which is solely derived from the oak casks during maturation. To underscore this theme, Macallan collaborated with the Pantone Color Institute to create a unique, complex shade of purple—dubbed “The Macallan Edition Purple”—featured prominently on the packaging. The whisky itself was crafted from a complex vatting of American oak casks—specifically selected for their color and comprising a combination of butts, hogsheads, and barrels from three different bodegas. Bottled at 48.5% ABV, the resulting single malt presents a profile described as fresh and sweet, with official tasting notes highlighting prominent aromas of vanilla and toffee, leading to a palate of caramel, poached peaches, ripe pear, and light oak spices like nutmeg and ginger, culminating in a long and sweet finish.
