The Macallan 18 Year Old Sherry Oak 2016 Release is an iconic, highly sought-after single malt from the legendary Speyside distillery. Matured uninterrupted for a minimum of 18 years exclusively in hand-picked, Oloroso sherry-seasoned European oak casks sourced from Jerez, Spain, this expression is renowned for its intense flavour depth, velvety mouthfeel, and 100% natural mahogany colour.
This specific 2016 edition marks a massive historic milestone for Macallan collectors. It represents the landmark transition bottle where the distillery permanently changed its naming structure. Following the famous 1997 Vintage, this 2016 bottling was the first ever 18-year-old Sherry Oak expression to drop the specific distillation year from the front label, replacing it with the modern annual calendar release year.
As the pioneer bottle of the modern annual series, this rare vintage transition release holds incredible historical significance, making it a mandatory anchor for investors and enthusiasts building a complete vertical Macallan collection set.
Tasting Notes:
• Nose: Rich dried fruits and ginger, beautifully balanced by elements of warm cinnamon, soft vanilla, citrus orange zest, and mature wood smoke.
• Palate: Full-bodied, smooth, and opulent. Deep flavours of rich dried fruit, clove spice, and toasted oak give way into toasted nuts and sweet sticky toffee.
• Finish: Exceptionally long and warming with a lingering depth of sweet ginger, wood spice, and rich sherried oak.
