A Liquid Time Capsule from the Victorian Era
This rare bottling is part of The Macallan’s celebrated “Replica Series,” a project where the distillery’s Master Whisky Maker (Bob Dalgarno) painstakingly recreated the specific flavor profiles of antique 19th-century bottles found in the company’s archives.
This specific edition replicates a bottle from 1876. Every detail has been faithfully reproduced to match the Victorian original, including the heavy glass, the “James Stuart & Co” labeling (the owner of the distillery from 1868–1892), and the period-correct cork stopper. It is presented in a tan presentation box lined with red velvet, accompanied by a small “Etiquette” booklet.
The Liquid Profile: Unlike the heavy sherry bombs of modern Macallan, the 1876 style was recreated to offer a lighter, more vibrant character typical of that era.
-
Nose: Summer fruits, green apples, and a touch of light peat smoke (historically accurate for the 1800s).
-
Palate: Spices, ginger, and citrus zest with a rich, oily mouthfeel.
-
Finish: Medium-long with oak wood and soft fruit.
